The St. Louis VAMC is a full-service health care facility providing inpatient and ambulatory care in medicine, surgery, psychiatry, neurology, and rehabilitation, as well as over 65 subspecialty areas. It is a two-division facility that serves veterans and their families in east central Missouri and southwestern Illinois.
The John Cochran Division, named after the late Missouri congressman, is located in midtown St. Louis in close proximity to its affiliated medical schools - St. Louis University and Washington University. It has all of the medical center's operative surgical capabilities, the ambulatory care unit, and a six-story Clinical Addition that includes surgical facilities, intensive care units, outpatient psychiatry clinics, and expanded laboratory.
The Jefferson Barracks Division is a multi-building complex overlooking the Mississippi River in south St. Louis County. It provides psychiatric treatment, regional spinal cord injury treatment, a nursing home care unit, geriatric health care, rehabilitation services, and a rehabilitation domiciliary program for homeless veterans.
The St. Louis VA Medical Center is associated with Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) in Belleville, IL; O'Fallon, MO (St. Charles County); and St. Louis, MO (North St. Louis County); and Washington, MO.

The duty station is the John Cochran Division; however, the duty station may be changed to one or multiple associated VAMC locations within the metropolitan St. Louis, MO area based on the needs of the medical center. Tour of Duty: M-F, rotating shifts that require on-call staffing for the department.
We offer state-of-the-art care, providing for an array of patients, primarily elderly males. High volume surgical patients include, ophthalmology, ENT, plastics, general surgery, orthopedics, neurosurgery, urology, vascular (including endo-vascular) Robotics, Endoscopy, and cardiothoracic Opportunities exist for RN's to acquire scrub and circulating experience. We are affiliated with the health care programs at local colleges/universities.
Operaitng Room Responsibilities/Duties:
· Demonstrates the ability to assess the physiological and psychological needs of the patient by providing perioperative nursing care according to AORN Standards and Recommended Practices. Treat patients with dignity, respect, privacy and confidentiality.
· Must possess self-confidence to be able to accomplish high level, delicate and skilled cardiac surgery nursing care
· Demonstrate autonomy, collaboration, team building, and mentoring skills.
· The CT OR nurse candidate will provide direct patient care by applying and documenting the nursing process to all avenues of perioperative nursing including preoperative assessment, nursing care plan formulation, operative care plan implementation and evaluation of patient's response.
· Exemplify the nursing process in the operating room as a patient advocate:
· Collaborating with Anesthesia regarding pt. care issues
· Constant diligence to safeguard pt. from preventable adverse incidents
· Awareness of changing levels of acuity and
· Readiness to provide needed supplies, equipment and personnel urgently
· Need to have dual skillset: scrub and circulating experience in cardiac surgery.
· Must possess organizational skills and have an understanding of cardiac surgical procedures
· Provide intraoperative nursing care by implementing sterile technique and maintaining a sterile field when scrubbing and/or circulating.
· Monitor equipment as it is being used for ultimate patient safety.
· Manage the care of the surgical patient in a manner which maintains a safe environment for staff, patients and families; ensures compliance with regulatory body standards and hospital policies and procedures; maintains standards of efficiency and cost effectiveness; and promotes a learning environment for all team members.
· The perioperative applicant must participate in a rotating call schedule with relief assignments to the OR/Post Anesthesia Care Unit, OR Procedure room and Cysto areas as needed.
The Nurse Manager duties include but are not limited to:
· Accountable for the 24/7 operations of the OR and PACU including, but not limited to delivery of nursing services and for immediate supervision and guidance of the registered nurse and non-licensed staff members.
· Responsible for the coordination, supervision, and leadership of daily operations, nursing practice, quality of care, performance improvement, patient –safety, efficiency of services, environment of care, education and professional development specific to each work setting.
· Accountability for planning, designing, integrating, implementing, and evaluating programs of clinical practice to continuously improve services to the Veterans.
· Promotes interdisciplinary evidence-based practice and customer service and satisfaction.
· Works collaboratively across all service lines and actively develops and manages collaborative partnerships with physicians, other clinicians, and works with Nurse Managers to identify and share resources.
· Responsible for performance measures, performance improvement, customer service/patient satisfaction, patient and employee safety, employee relations, standards of care and practice, the work environment, and accreditation and regulatory standards.
· Responsible for all issues that affect nursing including timely hiring, payroll certification, annual employee ratings, staff training, competency assessment, coaching/mentoring staff, disciplinary guidance, and assuring fiscal accountability.
· Oversees the allocation of available resources and the implementation of programs to promote safe, efficient, and cost effective services which contribute to meeting productivity goals.
· Responsible for meeting regulatory and professional standards of care, performance metrics, and also participates in the development of goals and strategic plans aimed at meeting patient care needs. Performs other duties as assigned.
· Manages staffing and the assessment, planning, provision, and evaluation of nursing care for multiple areas during non-administrative hours, to include nights, evenings and weekends (as needed).The Nurse Manager reports to the Associate Chief Nurse Surgical Operations and is accountable to the Associate Director for Patient Care Services (ADPCS).

Full unrestricted Licensure, Certification, or Registration required
Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.
The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6)
Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.

Additional Salary Information: The salary range for a OR RN is $56,719.00 - $89,976.00.
The salary rand for a OR Nurse Manager is $68,334 - $108,144.
