Residential-With a staff to resident ratio of 5:1, we provide each teen with the utmost support, attention, and guidance so that they can be successful in their recovery and gain lifelong skills for true happiness and health.
Outpatient-At our teen treatment centers, teens and families enrolled in the Outpatient Program have access to licensed Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Marriage and Family Therapists, Internal Medicine Physicians, Certified Chemical Dependency Counselors, Experiential Therapists, Art Therapists, Equine Therapists, and other addiction and behavioral health treatment specialists who work together to tailor treatments to reach individualized goals.
Day Schools-Newport Academy Day Schools ensure that students develop necessary life skills and receive a high school diploma, while remaining committed to abstinence from self-destructive behaviors. Newport Academy faculty customizes an educational plan to fit each student’s specific needs and work closely with administrators, teachers, and school counselors to support students’ academic success, and promote personal achievement.
Newport Academy is seeking a new Director of Psychiatry. The Director of Psychiatry provides initial evaluations of resident with mental or emotional problems. Offers counseling and psychotherapy to residents in distress. The Director will be based at our treatment center in Bethlehem, CT.
The new Director of Psychiatry will report to the Executive Director.
Oversees Psychiatric care of all residents
Functions as an effective member of the mental health team.
Reviews medical concerns/history for potential resident for medical clearance at the request of Admissions
Ensures that a Psychiatric Evaluations are performed on each East Coast resident/patient within 48 hours of admission
Attend to residents requiring psychiatric assistance while in treatment.
Facilitate Staff Trainings on pertinent Psychiatric issues and standards
Attend weekly Treatment Team Meetings
Liaison with staff Medical Director, Clinical Director and other necessary treatment team members
Assist Newport Academy Outreach Team forge relationships with hospitals.
Works in collaboration with staff APRN
Documents patient encounters through weekly progress notes and EMR
Manages a case load of up to 32 residents in collaboration with APRN.
Coordinates psychology services with direct care and clinical staff as indicated.
Works collaboratively with Psychiatry team regarding shared cases and treatment teams weekly and as needed
Assists with providing cross-coverage to Psychiatry team cases when needed
Assists with patient admissions including initial evaluations and initial assessment documentation
Maintains excellent communication with other members of the clinical team, outpatient providers and family members
Completes discharge recommendation assessments as part of collaborative discharge summaries
Full time duties with some on-call responsibilities
Experience with adolescent psychiatry preferred
Experience in a residential setting preferred
Medical Director/Physician leadership experience preferred

Recognizes current developments, trends and research in the field of medicine and psychiatry.
Understanding of clinical supervisory principles and practices.
Pharmacology and psychopharmacology including laws regarding informed consent, dosage ranges, drug incompatibilities, and side effects.
Strong understanding of HIPPA regulations.
Excellent computer skills and experience with similar Electronic Medical Records systems
Doctorate in Medicine (MD)
Board Certified in Child, Adolescent and Adult Psychiatry
