Department Summary:

The Department of Psychiatry provides inpatient and outpatient services to children, adolescents, and adults with mental illnesses.

The major site for inpatient services is the Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital (VPH) .

Outpatient services include the Vanderbilt Adult Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic (VAPOC), the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic (CAPOC), and several school-based programs.

We provide services in the following clinical areas:

• Administers and scores personality, intelligence, aptitude, achievement, and other psychological and neuropsychological tests.
• Gives paper and pencil tests or utilizes neuropsychological instruments that access memory learning, and problem solving ability, speed, strength, coordination, hearing, touch and/or vision.
• Assists with research studies, including giving tests to patients, tabulating and entering results in the computer.
• Assists in training psychology interns and practicum students in psychological and/or neuropsychological examinations.
