This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Education: Graduate from a Clinical Nurse Specialist master's degree program accredited by the National League of Nursing Accreditation Commission (NLNAC) which changed to the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN; http://www.acenursing.org or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE; (CCNE; http://www.aacn.nche.edu/) at the time the program was completed. License: Current, full, active and unrestricted licensure as a graduate professional Registered Nurse with approval to practice as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the U.S. or in the District of Columbia. Graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing programs must be in possession of current, full active and unrestricted licensure, and must meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Certification: Full and current certification as a Clinical Nurse Specialist from the American Nurses Association or another nationally recognized certifying body. The certification must be in the specialty to which the individual is being appointed or selected. Preferred Experience: BLS Provider card issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) or Military Training Network. Three (3) years RN experience. Previous RN/CNS experience in health care with palliative care. Ability to think critically, exercise flexibility and work collaboratively with interdisciplinary, core and expanded teams. Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. ["The Palliative Care Clinical Nurse Specialist serves the health care system by providing appropriate patient and family centered end of life care for veterans within Acute Care Hospital Operations (ACHO). The Incumbent reports clinically to the ACOS for Extended Care or Designee, and reports administratively to the Chief Nurse for ACHO. Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Developing systems in various ACHO units to ensure consistent assessment for appropriateness and offering of palliative care services. Participating in the implementation and development of palliative care programs throughout VAPAHCS. Providing and coordinating palliative care education for interdisciplinary teams across the facility. Providing appropriate consultation for patients within Specialty and Hospital Based Services. Developing and implementing quality improvement projects that focus on improving palliative care outcomes or processes. Educating Veterans and families about palliative care. Identifying ways to integrate palliative care with existing programs within VAPAHCS. Reviewing patient satisfaction surveys and addressing complaints and concerns of veterans and family members related to hospice and palliative care. Working with other VISN 21 facilities to share best practices to enable promotion of growth of the program. Participating in facility and VISN committees and conference calls. Coordinating a data driven program. Using LEAN and other process improvement principles to promote efficiency. Assuming a leadership roles within the service. Coordinating with outpatient teams to ensure continuity of care.
